My Date with Lucy

Was in Ethiopia last week and had to go visit Lucy at the National Museum in Addis Ababa. She is a 40% complete Australopithecus afarensis skeleton discovered by Maurice Taieb in 1974 and it is estimated that she lived around 3.3 million years ago.

You can read more about her here. I must say this was my first celebrity date!

She is a beautiful specimen though! You have to see the real thing if you ever get a chance. What is fascinating is some"one" that small and that old could be our great(raised to the power of n)-grandmother! Bones give you a sense of history in a way monuments never can.
